About the ATA

Welcome to the web site of the Arlington Teachers' Association. We are the union that represents more than 710 active certified educational professionals and 400 members who are retired. We are dedicated to advancing the professional lives of our members, and enhancing their terms and conditions of employment. The ATA is a forceful advocate for the professional conditions that permit our members to offer the best possible education to the students of the Arlington School District.

The ATA has been the exclusive bargaining agent for teachers in the Arlington School District since 1967. The union negotiates, administers and enforces collective bargaining agreements; protects the rights of staff through the grievance and arbitration process; and engages in political activity on behalf of our members and students. We also provide the benefits Dental, Vision, and Personal Health Account through a Welfare Trust Fund.

Our union is part of the 450,000 member New York State United Teachers (NYSUT). We are affiliated nationally with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), and are proud to be part of the AFL-CIO.

Arlington teachers strive to maintain and build a healthy and meaningful relationship with the community we serve. We believe communication between parents and teachers creates an atmosphere of cooperation and a unity of purpose that ensures the highest level of achievement for our students.
